The firm’s founder, Seán Ormonde, is a qualified solicitor with a Bachelor of Business and Legal Studies Degree from UCD and a Diploma in Employment Law from the Law Society of Ireland. The Ormonde name has long been a trusted one in Waterford, with three generations of Ormondes serving the Waterford people over the last century.
Seán’s grandfather, Seán “Jackie” Ormonde, represented Waterford on the hurling pitch in 1921, winning a Junior all Ireland for Waterford. He also sat at the cabinet table as Minister for Post and Telegraphs in Dev’s Government in 1957. Seán’s grandmother, Hannah Ormonde (nee Hickey), was the Jubilee nurse for Lismore and Kilmacthomas. Seán’s father and mother were both hospital consultants in the WRH (now Waterford University Hospital for the South East), playing key roles in the development of the hospital to become a Regional Hospital and one of the finest teaching centers in the Country.
Seán’s father also represented the Waterford constituency both as a TD in opposition in the 1980s and as a senator. In latter years, his involvement with Waterford GAA has helped the County teams reach great heights and bring success and hope of a breakthrough at All-Ireland level. Seán has been strongly involved in community initiatives, not just through the local bar association, but also through community charities such as South East Simon Community, the Waterford Rotary club, the Winterval Festival, and many other organizations and events.
